Linda’s journey with LighterLife

Download images to see Linda Robson looking awesome in The Little Black Dress.Linda Robson, 52, shot to fame in the early ‘90s starring opposite friend and fellow LighterLife success story, Pauline Quirke, in the BBC sitcom Birds of a Feather.

With three children and a busy acting career Linda is also a real foodie. She has even taken part in Channel 4’s Come Dine with Me, and was a semi-finalist on Celebrity MasterChef.

But like so many of us, Linda has found controlling her weight a challenge, and over the years as the weight crept on, she realised she was the heaviest she’d ever been and needed to make some changes.

The start of Linda’s LighterLife journey began when the famous Birds of a Feather sisters were reunited on This Morning in July 2011, when Pauline was being interviewed about her amazing weight loss.

Linda commented to Pauline: “You look fantastic, you really do. I've never seen her look this good before, though she's always been beautiful. Maybe it'll spur me on to do something now.” From that moment Linda hasn’t looked back.

Linda’s journey with LighterLife has led directly to her new enviably slimline figure. And a healthy approach to food now ensures Linda can enjoy long-term weight maintenance and management.

Linda started LighterLife in August 2011. While following the programme she’s also been a regular commentator on Loose Women, performed in panto, backed a new no-smoking campaign, and has been preparing for the much-anticipated Birds of a Feather tour. Positive Thinking is the key to
achieving so much in life.

One of the benefits of positive thinking is increased awareness. When you practice being aware of your thoughts and feelings over a period of time, it comes to a point that you are naturally aware of you feeling positive or negative.

Then, feeling positive is just a matter of choice and action. Whenever you are aware that you are in a negative state of mind you can choose to take up on one of the positive thinking activities from the list below and improve how you feel. These positive thinking activities will help you to keep your positive attitude as long as you choose to focus on what you are doing and obtain the maximum benefit from the activity.

Take some time to feel grateful for what you have. Truly feel thankful for your abundance. You could even compile a list and write it down to remind you every time of the things and people that you do have in your life.

Practice meditation. You don't need to do anything special: simply sit quietly for a few minutes where you won't be disturbed and focus on your breathing. When you find yourself thinking about anything, bring yourself gently back to your breathing. Stay for as long as you like; the more you stay with it, the more you'll find it pleasant and soothing.

Watch a good funny movie. You could rent it out and make yourself comfortable at home and have a good laugh!

Do some exercise (half an hour of good, focused exercise, is ideal, though ten minutes will already make you feel good). This will clear your lungs and help you breath better, filling you with energy.

Create a personal board for the things that you want to achieve. Browse through magazines and cut out pictures that represent what you want to have: the house, the car, the relationships. Paste them on your board and have it visible to keep a positive attitude.

Spend some time helping someone else to do something. It could be a relative, a neighbour, or you could even volunteer to help at a charity shop or at an orphan asylum, for instance. Getting out of your own self and helping someone else will feel rewarding.

Be creative: draw, paint, write, compose poetry, mould clay, even if you have not done anything like that before. Let your right brain work and express yourself. Your purpose is not to demonstrate how much of an artist you are, but to have fun being creative.

If you keep plants, do some gardening and find peace in grooming your plants. Buy yourself a flower pot of your favourite colour and remember the beauty of life whenever you look at it.

If you have kids or nephews, take time to play with them. Observe that the mind of a child is still not constrained by society's rules and values, and it's very creative. Go back to youth by playing with kids.

Watch "The secret". This is a positive thinking movie that presents an initial approach to how we shape our lives and what we attract to ourselves. http://www.thesecret.tv/

Four things you no longer
need to be afraid of . . .
Confront your fears . . .

FAILURE - doesn't exist. We can choose to frame mistakes as failures but they are often the best learning curves. People who strictly see themselves as either a 'success' or a 'failure' are more likely to suffer depression at some point in their in their lives. They depend on external fixes like promotions at work or having well-mannered children to feel worthy - instead of being fulfilled from within.

FAT - Don't apologise for being a bigger size by slouching and hiding in corners. If your body language is confident you'll have a more positive presence . . no matter what. In fact, whatever your shape - embrace it.

ACCEPTING COMPLIMENTS - Acknowledging praise doesn't make you arrogant. This is a key lesson from transactional analysis. If you get a compliment simply say 'thank you'. Accepting positive recognition may seem strange at first but feels great the more you practise it.

BEING LABELLED AS BITCHY - If everybody likes you then you're probably not saying much or being yourself. You can't please everyone all of the time and you don't have to spend your life explaining yourself. If your conscience is clear then swallow your pride and know you're being true to yourself.

Get a Good Night's Sleep

If you find you reach for a snack when tired, bear in mind that tiredness can be a common trigger for hunger. In fact, any emotional extreme can make us more likely to eat. Remember the phrase "HALT - hungry, angry, lonely, tired".

Evaluate whether you are having any such feelings before giving in to food cravings.

Scientists have found that sleep deprivation increases levels of  hunger hormones, therefore getting at least seven hours sleep a night might be a critical component of weight control.

It may be cold but......
Hydration is still very important, especially when we start spending many hours in a centrally heated home in these colder months. This will dry the air in your home so increasing your perspirition even if you don't feel it.
Water is critical to natural well being, but even more so when on a weight loss journey, as it helps revitalise your skin.
Try these Super Foods for February, just right for Management Clients.
Each fruit or vegetable has a prime time when it’s at its seasonal best. Some are great for over half of the year; others only hit their peak for a month. Either way it means extra flavour, extra crunch, extra juiciness - all super fresh and great value.

Leeks
Packed with anti-oxidants and vitamins, the mighty leek can help stave off winter colds. It’s also the perfect partner to potatoes for deeply satisfying side dishes and suppers.
Try wrapping parboiled leeks in smoked ham, pouring over a bit of white sauce, sprinkling over breadcrumbs and baking until golden brown.

Savoy Cabbage
Pleasingly wrinkly to the touch and nutty to the taste, the Savoy makes a mighty fine guest at any meal, particularly Sunday lunch. Finely sliced cabbage with pancetta and finely sliced garlic—this works brilliantly with game.
